5. Analysis and
comparison of the alternatives: This is done by using non-compensatory model
called Dominance to evaluate each
alternative; Project Engineer is the preferred alternative.
Using
another non compensatory model called Satisficing

6. Selection
of the preferred alternative
The best
Alternative is Project Engineer where all the skills and knowledge of
AACE is applicable
7. Performance
Monitoring.
The deliverable of the project engineer
vis a Avis progress report on AACE program.
My Observation: The multiattribute
decision making method using both the compensatory and non compensatory models
gives an excellent assurance on your decision making. Also no single model can
be applied in isolation they complement each other which further gives
credibility to your decision making.

Nice analysis, Doyin...... What I am not clear on is where you got your numbers from?
ReplyDeleteNORMALLY, a BDM (assuming you are paid on results) offers much more upside potential (and downside risk) than does an Engineer......
So while your analysis was set up correctly I think if you looked at BDM and IC as being ENTREPRENEURIAL positions rather than just jobs, I suspect the results may be different.
Usually with these kinds of decisions, the key becomes how much risk are you willing to tolerate and just how good you really are at doing BDM or IC..... As an employee doing it for others, I agree that the salaries are pretty low and the opportunity for growth is also limited.
How about if you looked at all three options as an INDEPENDENT CONSULTANT?
Supposing you have a choice between forming your own cost engineering consultancy (and be sure to consider hiring Lucky!!!) and forming a BDM or IC consultancy company then see what the outcome might be?
Bottom line- great case study but not sure you really set it up as well as you could have, comparing apples to apples.....
