Tuckman`s Forming
Storming Norming Performing model
Tuckman`s forming
storming Norming Performing model describes team`s developmental phases.
There are four divisions;
Forming – This defines the early phase of the team formation
whereby the leader literarily does much of the work and team members’
individual roles and responsibilities not clearly defined.
Storming-As team members begin to understand the tasks,
individuals tend to be assertive and struggles within the group make it harder
to take decision. The leader encounter`s challenges from members and cliques
are formed
Norming- At this stage roles and responsibilities are
clearly defined and teamwork is encouraged. There is good commitment among
members. Decisions are reached by
consensus and the leader is well respected.
Performing-This is the performing stage where the team
carries out it`s activities with no interference from the leader. There is
great awareness among the group as targets are met and bonding in
relationships.
Assessment result
From the assignment given, the scores for each of the
Tuckman`s phases is listed below;
1 3 2 3 4 4 3 4
5 3 7 4 6 4 8 3
10 1 9 2 11 3
12 4
15 4 16 3 13 5 14 5
18 4 20 1 19 3 17

21 1 23 3 24 2 22 4
27 3 28 1 25 1 26 3
29 4 31 1 30 3 32 4
23 Forming 18
Storming 25 Norming 31Performing
From the scores, it shows that there is no clear indication that
the team is in any developmental stage. The highest score 31 shows that the
team understands what has to be done and has worked together to achieve result.
However there is great input from the leader in getting to where we are now.
There scores for the other three stages show little
difference.
The team condition at this stage can be interpreted thus;
The team is still trying to grasp the tasks at hand
There are individual commitments which is not equated to
team commitment
The team is open to take up individual problems
The team is still catching up with work in the office
The team has potential to deliver
Management style at
this phase
The characteristics above depict a stormy phase and Hersey
and Blanchard`s Situational Leadership model that switches between the 4 stages
of telling, selling, participating and delegating is recommended at this stage.
Conclusion
The result indicate no clear idea of the stage the group is
in.
With the storming stage being described as volatile phase,
it can be fairly deduced that the team is in Storming stage. Therefore active
leadership role that switches between telling, selling, participating and
delegating is required at the stage to bring members up to speed.

Charles........ What can I say? Obviously enough, you are not bothering to read other peoples postings.....
ReplyDeleteYou did NOT follow the step by step approach shown on page 7 of Engineering Economy and you did NOT come close to citing your references using APA format which was explained on inumerable messages I've sent out and in almost all the comments I've made on other peoples blogs.
Unfortunately, I have to REJECT this posting and instruct you to redo it, naming your SECOND posting on this topic W1.1_Charles_Tuckman. This means you cannot claim this posting for the purposes of Earned Value unless you fix it before Close of Business today.
But before you repost, I STRONGLY urge you to read over the postings made by others in this group, paying special attention to my COMMENTS.
I also urge you to spend 15-20 minutes reviewing how to properly cite your references using APA format using "The OWL@Purdue"- http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ Let's get over the learning curve as quickly as possible.
