W2_Stella_ Health and Traffic Congestion

1.     1.Problem Definition and Recognition

Traffic congestion is a significant issue in urban areas in Nigeria and around the world. Previous analyses have estimated the economic costs of congestion, related to fuel and time wasted, but few have quantified the public health impacts or determined how these impacts compare in magnitude to the economic costs.

Congestion arises when a roadway system approaches vehicle capacity, resulting in numerous negative impacts ranging from wasted fuel and time to increases in tailpipe emissions.Congested cities are fast becoming the test tubes for scientist studying the impact of traffic fumes on the brain.Recent studies show that breathing street-level fumes for just 30 minutes can intensify electrical activity in the brain regions responsible for behavior, personality and decision-making, changes that are suggestive of stress. Breathing normal city air with high levels of traffic exhaust for 90 days can change the way that genes turn on or off among the elderly; it can also leave a molecular mark on the genome of a newborn for life, separate research teams at Columbia University and Harvard University reported this year, By ROBERT LEE HOTZ
Thus, the primary aim of my study is to create awareness on the deep effect of traffic fumes on our health. Then develop or adopt a better a way of avoiding to be caught up in the traffic, because the problem is always there.
2.    Feasible Alternatives.

i.Map out the some alternatives routes.
ii. Check for traffic reports before you leave through radio, news to know the possible and best route to follow.
iii. Use a GPS device with live traffic updates during your commute.
iv. Get traffic updates on your phone.
v. Commute by Bicycles or motorbike
vi. Leave your house earlier enough to avoid traffic

3.     Develop the outcomes for each alternative

In general abiding to these feasible alternatives will reduce an individual exposure from the hazardous effect of traffic congestion on health.
The Individual will save enough time and money, hence productivity will be positively affected.
4.    Selection of Criteria
From the analyses gotten on daily movement on the road, the best criterion is to leave your house very early in order to meet up with your schedule on time.

5.Select the preferred alternative

Considering the heavy impact of traffic congestion on health, the preferred alternative is to leave very early to avoid inhaling of this toxic fumes in the traffic.

6.    Performance Monitoring & Post Evaluation of Result

Evaluation will be based on the level of good health

  1. OK Stella, not bad..... You followed our step by step process fairly well but your citations still are not in conformance to APA standards.

To fix your citations, you need to go here: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/10/

Scroll down the page to the appropriate reference.
Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (Date of publication). Title of article. Title of Journal, volume number. Retrieved from http://www.journalhomepage.com/full/url/

Is this what your citations look like? Yes or no? If no, then why not? This is the standard of quality I am expecting to see.

I am accepting this posting but for your W3 posting, what I suggest would be to use the same case study, but this time, use one of the Root Cause Analysis Tools http://people.wku.edu/mark.doggett/qmjv12i4doggett.pdf or http://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newTMC_80.htm to determine what your feasible alternatives are.

As Folakemi is doing her paper on a similar topic, I would urge you to collaborate with her, at least until you get a better understanding of how to set up your blogs.

Another excellent source to help you solve this type of problem would be to review these refereneces: http://www.evropa.gov.rs/evropa/ShowDocument.aspx?Type=Home&Id=525 or http://www.epu.gov.my/c/document_library/get_file?p_l_id=10127&folderId=20724&name=DLFE-7901.pdf

And lastly, I STRONGLY urge you NOT to use Wiki references. The paper reviewers at AACE do NOT like Wiki's and you risk losing points from your paper if you cite Wikipedia or any other Wiki reference.

Getting better Stella but you need to improve the quality of your citations and try to get all the fonts to be the same size and style. This blog can be seen by anyone in the world and the quality of your blog is a reflection on your professional image.
